Canada wants all federal workers to be vaccinated by Autumn

The government has declared that all civil servants in Canada must have their vaccines by October 31, or they will lose their jobs.

This mandate applies to all federally regulated workers, such as rail.

A passenger on commercial air, cruise, and interprovincial trains must also be vaccinated before they travel.

Canada has one the highest rates of Covid vaccination in the world with 81% of eligible persons having had at least one dose.

Dominic LeBlanc, Intergovernmental Affairs Minister, stated that:

“This is the best way to end the pandemic” and allowed the economy to remain open”

Canada has a system where each province keeps track of who was vaccinated. Mr. LeBlanc stated that screening and testing procedures will be used for people who are unable to be vaccinated due to medical reasons.

Omar Alghabra, Transport Minister, stated that the decision was also intended to restore public confidence in travel.

He said that the federal government would collaborate with industry players and travel operators to create a “Measured, practical approach” to vaccine policy before the October deadline.

This mandate could influence voters in the general elections Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is widely anticipated to call for September.

Recent Ekos research polls show that 33% of Conservative voters are against vaccine requirements. The Liberal Party is supported by the majority.

Canada’s chief public health officer Dr. Theresa Tam warned Thursday that the country is currently experiencing a fourth Covid Wave. The country currently has more than 13,000 Covid-19 cases.
