Rugby Live Today Six Nations chief executive Ben Morel insists that the organization has yet to make plans to extend the championship by incorporating South Africa.
Four South African franchises - the Stormers, Sharks, Bulls and Lions have all succeeded in converting to competitions for clubs within the north hemisphere.
The Stormers were the champions at the inaugural United Rugby Championship (URC) this season, and they together alongside other teams like the Sharks and Bulls, are now in the 16th round of the Champions, while rugby live today the Lions have also accomplished similar feats during the Challenge Cup.
Because of the success in the transition to URC and the European cup tournaments, there has been speculation that the Springboks could take the same route to the Six Nations.
However, Morel insists that the reports are not true and rugby live today also revealed it was not the case that Boks’ Six Nations participation was not discussed.
“”There isn’t any discussion about expansion of to the Six Nations right now, the focus is on finding the most effective solution, and enhancing the window between July and November and creating an improved narrative that is more competitive for those games,” Morel.
“Our primary focus on taking part in Six Nations is on this. So, there needs to be a discussion about this topic. There is never.
“I can understand that dynamic, but the players in the club game in South Africa needed a competition to play in, which has been an issue on their side. There has obviously been some interest, but we are not engaging in any of those conversations.”
The Springboks will continue to play within the south-hemisphere-based Rugby Championship against All Blacks rugby live today, Wallabies and Pumas until 2025, the organizers SANZAAR announced in 2022.
South Africa finished in second place behind New Zealand in last year’s Rugby Championship after winning four of the six games.
